Lime and Cork based renders

High-performance thermal and acoustic insulation.

ECS Lime, Cork, Hemp, and Clay renders

The oldest known use of a lime dates back to around 7,500 BC in Ain Ghazal, Jordan and Çatalhöyük, Turkey. At these sites, lime plaster was used on a large scale for covering walls, floors, and hearths in homes, with the plaster containing lime mixed with unheated crushed limestone.

ECS´s helps clients identify the best type of render to use on their new or historic project. ECS works with over 20 suppliers of natural lime (not NHL), cork, hemp, clay and also natural paints. Although we make our own natural lime renders and also insulated lime renders, one very popular bagged cork render suppliers we use is Diasen as it has all certifications for mainstream construction.

ECS offers its customers:

– Cork insulating render projection and cork paint (SATA) contract installation

 – Highly competitive pricing on bagged cork renders and insulation products that have all been tested and certified for thermal and acoustic performance for residential and commercial buildings.

– Technical assistance in selecting the right materials for each project, drawing on our in-depth knowledge of the product portfolio.

– Custom, inhouse blended limecrete, hempcrete and corkcrete renders (some of which can be polished), We also make our own lime morters and renders for specific restoration projects that require colour, or agrigate texture matching.

By combining our expertise in lime, clay, cork, hemp and other materials we offer hands-on support empower our partners and clients to successfully incorporate these natural solutions into their projects. Our goal is to be a trusted advisor throughout the entire process, from material selection to final installation.

Thermal comfort

One of the many cork renders we use is Diasen Diathonite, it is a very well-known and respected brand and is an innovative insulation product that offers superior thermal and acoustic performance for residential and commercial buildings. Made of natural and environmentally friendly materials, this product is designed to provide an energy-efficient and sustainable solution for modern construction projects.

Diasen Diathonite features a unique blend of natural cork, hydrated lime, and natural fillers that work together to create a highly effective insulation layer. The product is easy to apply and can be installed on a variety of surfaces, including walls, roofs, and floors. It can also be polished.

Cork-based renders and paints are innovative insulation solution that delivers exceptional thermal and acoustic performance while promoting sustainability and occupant well-being. Their high thermal resistance (R-value) makes them highly effective at preventing heat loss in winter and heat gain in summer, significantly reducing heating and cooling costs. Cork renders often have a natural composition, which includes a blend of cork, hydrated lime, and natural fillers, allowing for effective moisture management, and minimizing the risk of mould and other moisture-related issues.

In addition to its thermal benefits, they offer outstanding acoustic insulation properties, making it ideal for use in apartments, hotels, and other high-traffic areas where noise reduction is essential. Its ability to reduce noise transmission between rooms and floors contributes to a more comfortable and peaceful living environment.

Not all cork renders are created equal, finding sustainable and environmentally friendly products, made entirely from natural materials without the use of harmful chemicals is not always easy. However many of the top brands we work with offer a safe choice for use in homes and buildings, promoting a healthier indoor environment for occupants.

Overall, cork-based renders are an exceptional insulation solution that combines superior performance, sustainability, and ease of installation. Whether you are constructing a new building or upgrading the insulation of an existing one, this product is a smart choice for enhancing energy efficiency, comfort, and livability.
